Boat (RMDL) and Jet Ski (PWC) Licence

The boat and jet ski licence course can be completed by either of the following options:

Online Theory and Face to Face Practical

The online combined theory course for the RMDL (Boat) and PWC (Jet Ski)Licence is completed at your own pace though our structured online learning software. The course combines the training provided in the boat licence units with the added theory related to owning and riding a PWC. In QLD it is a requirement for PWC operators to hold both licences. Topics covered in the theory session include: Trip Planning, Navigation, Weather/Tides and Emergency Management along with PWC preparation, regulation and seamanship.

On completion of this combined theory course a written assessment and practical session needs to be completed to demonstrate competency and develop the necessary skills to successfully handle both a recreational marine vessel and a personal water craft safely on the water.

The theory component of this course can be completed in approximately 4-5 hours over as many sessions as needed. The practical session typically takes 3-4 hours depending on the number of students training on the day. Cost to complete this course is $250.

Face to Face Course (8.00am - 4.30pm)

The One Day BoatSafe approved course is the traditional method of gaining your boat and jet ski licence and is the best choice for anyone new to boating or those who learn best in a hands on training session.

The course involves completing both the theory and practical sessions of the licence in the one day. On completion of this combined theory course a written assessment and practical session needs to be completed to demonstrate competency and develop the necessary skills to successfully handle both a recreational marine vessel and a personal water craft safely on the water.

Cost to complete this course is $250.

Online Course

Our online course covers all of the theory needed to complete your boat licence. Benefits of this option include the flexibility to complete this in the comforts at home in a time frame that best suits.

Course Dates

Our main training room is located at office #50 in Gold Coast City Marina. Full airconditioned facilities with an easy walk onto the marina and departure to the Coomra River. Courses run every week, check out our dates.

Advanced Practical Sessions

If you would prefer an extended training session, we are able to offer a range of further training rides with the Broadwater and Southern Moreton Bay. Email or call to discuss these sessions.

Luke Stratton

Owner and principal trainer with over 20 years experience in training within the marine industry. Has a love of all things marine.

Geoff Bagnall

Geoff has over 25 years experience in education and runs sessions on the Southern end of the Gold Coast from the Tallebudgera Creek.

Johnathon Rodgers

Johnathon is involved in all aspects of vessel management and ensures a complete maintenance schedule for your vessel.

Classtime

Classtime is a 6.5m rigid inflatable powered by a 150Hp Evinrude Etec. Surveryed for 9 persons in current AMSA 2C survey.

Seadoo Gti

Our training PWC is a seadoo 130Hp Gti 3 seater. With IBR and OPAS, this pwc is perfectly suited to the training environment.

BJ

BJ is a 4.5 Stessco side console powered by a 60 Hp Evinrude Etec. BJ is the perfect training vessel for the rivers and creeks such as Tallebudgera Creek.

Our training room is based at Gold Coast City Marina in Coomera with direct access onto the Coomera Rivera and Southport Broadwater.

Wednesday 3.30pm or Saturdays/Sundays

These sessions are conducted from our training room at Tallebudgera Creek. Courses completed at Tallebudgera Creek are typically done by completing the theory component of the course online although full face to face courses can be arranged. Practical sessions are conducted on the Tallebudgera Creek, Broadbeach Waters or on the Nerang River.
